What is Proofreading & Line Editing?
Proofreading and Line Editing are the fine details of grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, homonyms, etc. They differ from Developmental Editing in that details such as plot, plot holes, eye color, etc., are not the focus. I focus on details such as the correct usage of vice/vise, your/you’re, their/they’re/there, principle/principal, and other homonyms (words that sound the same but are spelled differently); making sure your comma and semicolon usage is correct; making sure you don’t have extra or missing spaces; checking your spelling and looking for typos; ensuring invented words are consistently spelled throughout your manuscript; that your capitalization is correct; awkward wording; and other similar things.
I will not check your plot or that details such as descriptions are consistent. My focus is on the technicalities of the English language and any invented languages you might use.
Low rates!
Current rates are $0.01 per word.
Example: 100,000 words = $1,000
Example: 72,000 words = $720
Payment type should be discussed before manuscript submission.
When you pay: first half of payment with manuscript submission, second half of payment upon my completion of services.
How many times will you go over my manuscript?
Each manuscript will get up to 3 passes/reads included. Additional passes available with discussion.
Qualifications
I have degrees in English and Liberal Arts and graduated magna cum laude. I have experience in editing fiction.
What else should I know?
- My name is Ro Nelson.
- During my best years I read approximately 430 books.
- Fast turnaround: I aim to finish going over your manuscript in a month or less, provided you do not significantly alter very large portions of your manuscript between reads/passes.
- I recommend you use my services after you’ve solidified your plot and/or already had a Developmental Editor or a number of Alpha and Beta readers go over your work. Think of what I offer as “dotting the ‘i’s and crossing the ‘t’s,” and giving your work that final polish it needs to really shine and look professional.
- I can work with most standard document formats. If in doubt, ask!
